Jeffrey A. Rindels
PLACEMENT & EXPERIENCES
I recently earned my single subject credential in Art and eager to apply my skills and talents for budding student artists. My student teaching placement was at Skyline High School in Oakland, California, and the interactions between students and staff strengthen my resolve that art is a valuable component towards young people developing social and emotional intelligence.

TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
I am interested in promoting the positive attributes of creation, its broad applications, and how it benefits the development of young peoples’ social and emotional intelligence. My belief is that art, and the evaluation of it, provides opportunities to employ alternative problem solving techniques and a conduit for self-expression, which in turn, lead to more confidant and critical thinking skills necessary for the 21st. century.
Teaching is connection, responsibility, guidance and mentorship. Learning should empower our imagination to process and speculate on the next opportunity: To Observe and Envision. When a teacher develops craft and learning techniques for students those students have the ability to observe, reflect and interpret their internal and external worlds.
I want to foster and promote self-awareness and personal responsibility among students by establishing a safe and respectful environment. Inclusivity and trust are paramount. Personal expression takes courage, and built within any courage story is the idea of struggle and doubt. A caring community will be ready to connect and support one another when these phenomena arise and pave the way for confidence as artists. This what students can expect in art classes taught by Mr. Rindels.

2-D & VISUAL ART METHODS
My art training primarily is 2-dimension art which includes but not limited to: Collage, Drawing, Painting, Printmaking. Curriculum and my own work rely and utilize the significant amount of my art training as well as my artistic practice.
ART AS
COMMUNICATION & GIFT
The bulk of my work is mail-art or post card art. My objective is to connect with friends, colleagues and family through the U.S. Postal Service while challenging my ability to condense ideas and visual language within a small format to mail.
SCHOOL CULTURE
My abilities to function in and contribute to a positive school culture have been formed by my roles of teacher, substitute teacher and custodian. As a custodian for Berkeley High School I possess the knowledge of what goes on behind the scenes that make a school operate. This is a valuable lens through which to observe and appreciate the many people that participate in a student's learning.
